David Arthur

On November 2, 2019 in his 74th year. Dear husband and best friend of Muriel for 49 wonderful years. Loving father of Scott (Mel), Shawn (Joanne) and Cindy (Matt). Cherished grandpa of Josh, Ashley, Jamie, Averi, Sarah and Chloe. He will also be greatly missed by sisters Sue (Ron), Kathy (Ian) and step mom Jean, as well as extended family and friends.

Dave was a kind and gentle man who faced challenges with patience and dignity. His love for life included his passion for family, square dancing, round dancing, camping, canoeing, hiking, skiing, swimming and of course, conversing with others. He was always keen and eager to help others. This led to the development of his own personal business, which he was so proud of for the past 29 years, allowing him to help many people with their various medical issues.

Dear Muriel,
My heart goes out to you. David was a wonderful man. It was not long ago that we were canoeing with our dear husbands on the Mississippi River and in Algonquin Park. I hope such memories give you strength to help you through this difficult time. My deepest sympathy. Mary Robinson.

Alan Bland

Dear Muriel,
My name is Alan Bland and you probably don't remember me. I think we met only once when you and David were at Bryan Allen's house. I met David in 1959 when I moved to Waterdown from Kingston. I became fast friends with David, Bryan Allen and Rick Watson. We all attended Waterdown Public school and High school together. Since the back yard's of David's house and Bryan's house adjoined, it was a favourite place for us to play baseball and football. In the winter time the backyard became a hockey rink complete with boards and lights at night. In the orchard behind their houses we built what we called our "fort". It was a small ramshackle building made from any kind of lumber we could beg, borrow and steal. Of course the roof leaked like crazy and David suggested to Art that we could make use of a few of the shingles that Art was saving. When we were finished we had covered the roof and all the outside walls. Then the inevitable happened, Art came out to inspect our handiwork. That's when he threw a fit and yelled at David. I think David had misinformed Art as to "how many" a few might be but Art eventually got over it. We ended up running an extension cord from Jim Allen's garage so that we had lights at night and didn't have to sit in the dark. You probably are aware that David was quite the inventor. Being fifteen year old boys, we were engrossed with firecrackers. David thought we should have a gun that utilized firecrackers to fire marbles, so he made one. We had a great time with that and it was a wonder we didn't kill each other. We had a great time shooting at the abandoned houses behind Bryan's house. I think a few street lights might have suffered a bit after dark. Then one day, Dave, Rick, Bryan and I had a real scare. For some reason we made a target and fastened it to the wall of the garage at my house. We should have know that the marble would go right through that wall. We fired one shot and then, when I could see the hole in the garage wall, I was quaking in my shoes. I walked around to look in the garage to see what damage I had done to my Dad's car. Believe me I was ready to run away from home and I think David and the others were too. Anyway the car was gone. My parents had gone out shopping. Whew. The marble had gone through the wall of the garage and buried itself in the window frame on the other side of the garage.
I am so,so sorry for your loss and I will treasure the great memories I have of David......................Alan
